How do I care for antique lithographs?

Keep prints away from direct sunlight to prevent the ink and paper from fading over time. Maintain stable indoor humidity levels to protect the paper and any original wooden framing. Use UV-filtering glass if you choose to re-frame a piece to provide an extra layer of conservation. Avoid damp environments where mould or foxing might damage the surface.

Are these prints originals or reproductions?

The pieces listed here are original vintage and antique printings from their respective periods, not modern digital copies. They were produced using traditional lithographic printing methods of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Close inspection under magnification reveals the characteristic dot patterns or flat ink coverage typical of authentic period lithography rather than modern inkjet printing.

What subjects are most common?

Natural history subjects such as birds and animals appear frequently alongside sporting scenes like polo matches and hunting. Architectural views and historical figures also form a large part of the available selection. Advertising pieces, including soap posters and cycling prints, represent the commercial output of the Edwardian and early twentieth century periods.

How can I tell the age of a print?

Examine the paper stock, printing technique, and stylistic markers associated with periods like the Victorian era or the Edwardian years. Age is often indicated by the natural toning of the paper and the specific chemistry of the inks used. Original framing materials and publisher stamps or publication dates printed on the margins offer further clues to the exact era of production.
