How do I choose the right size?

Review the dimensions given in each individual listing carefully against your available bedroom space. Sizes range from single iron frames and daybeds to generous French double and king size bedsteads. Consider clearance for headboards and footboards, especially when dealing with carved Louis styles or four poster iron frames that project further into the room.

Are these beds suitable for daily use?

Many antique iron and wooden beds can accommodate modern mattresses with appropriate slat systems or bases. Check whether the frame requires custom support or professional adjustment. Storage pieces like blanket boxes and coffers function immediately as practical furniture for linens, blankets, or general household storage.

How do I care for wooden surfaces?

Maintain waxed or polished timber surfaces by applying appropriate natural beeswax periodically to nourish the grain. Avoid placing antique furniture in direct sunlight or near heat sources to prevent timber splitting. Dust regularly with a soft cloth and address spills immediately to protect the historic finish.

How do I identify French regional styles?

French beds frequently display specific stylistic indicators such as Louis XV curves, Louis XVI straight tapered legs, or painted cane paneling. Walnut and fruitwood were common choices in regional French workshops. Compare the carving motifs and proportions against known period designs to determine the specific stylistic influence.
