A Victorian ceramic plaque is a flat earthenware or porcelain panel painted with decorative scenes, popular during the 19th century as framed display art for residential interiors.

Artists applied mineral pigments to fired earthenware or porcelain bodies before or after glazing, followed by kiln firings to fuse the artwork permanently into the ceramic surface.

Authentic pieces often display surface glaze crazing, artist signatures near the bottom margin, and period-correct construction or gilding on the accompanying frame.

Hang the plaque as part of a gallery wall or position it in a narrow wall space to add historical texture against contemporary paint shades.

Dust gently with a soft microfibre cloth, avoiding liquid cleaning agents or excessive moisture that could damage original frame gilding or unsealed ceramic backings.
