The Meiji and Taisho periods marked a golden age for Japanese metalwork, during which traditional samurai sword-fitting artisans transitioned to creating intricate bronze and mixed-metal sculptures for both domestic and international markets.

These pieces were typically cast using the traditional lost-wax method or investment casting, employing custom copper-tin-zinc alloy formulations that developed distinct patinas over decades of handling and exposure.

Authentic items often feature hand-chased surface details, natural patination resulting from age and oxidisation, and occasionally foundry marks or artist signatures stamped or cast into the base.

An antique bronze can be placed on a stack of art books on a coffee table or used as a functional desk accent to introduce a sense of history, texture, and refined craftsmanship to a modern space.

Maintain antique bronze by dusting gently with a soft, dry cloth and avoiding all chemical cleaners, polishes, or abrasive materials to preserve the natural historical patina.
