19th century
For Sale by Chalfont Clocks
Description

A fine oak cased bracket clock, with a twin fusee eight day movement striking on a bell, is housed in a honey coloured light oak case with ebony inlay, cock beaded stringing and fretwork sound vents. The case is topped with a stepped caddy top with a lower ogee molding typical of the period, with a silvered engraved dial signed De La Salle & Christie, Cannon Street, London.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A twin fusee bracket clock is a spring-driven table clock utilising a fusee cone and chain mechanism to equalise power, featuring two separate gear trains for timekeeping and hourly striking.

These timepieces are typically constructed with hardwood cases such as oak, mahogany, or rosewood, housing brass movements, silvered or enamel dials, and glass front apertures.

Authentic pieces feature hand-engraved maker signatures on the dial or movement backplate, cast brass bezels, twin fusee mechanisms, and period-correct case joinery.

Position the clock as a central focal point on a fireplace mantelpiece, sideboard top, or bookshelf to add architectural structure and history to contemporary decor.

Keep the timepiece in a climate-stable room away from direct heat, wind the mechanism regularly with the correct key, and schedule professional horological servicing every five to seven years.
