Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Cast iron umbrella stands gained widespread popularity in the mid-nineteenth century due to advances in iron founding, notably led by foundries such as Coalbrookdale. As wet-weather accessories became household necessities, foundries produced elaborate stands featuring naturalistic, allegorical, and architectural motifs to decorate Victorian entryways.

These stands were made using molten pig iron poured into sand moulds, resulting in crisp decorative relief. They typically consist of a heavy upright back piece, a upper retaining ring or division bar for sticks, and a recessed drip tray base to collect water.

Authentic pieces often feature crisp casting lines, substantial weight, and foundry marks or Victorian Diamond Registration Stamps impressed into the back or underside of the base. Later reproductions tend to show softer details, rougher hand-finishing, or modern screw fittings.

Positioning a painted iron stand in an entryway or hallway provides practical storage for umbrellas and walking canes while introducing sculptural texture. The ornate cast detailing contrasts effectively with minimalist walls or traditional wood panelling.

To prevent rust, keep the metal dry and clear water from the drip tray regularly. Dust with a soft brush or microfiber cloth, and apply a thin coat of clear microcrystalline wax periodically to protect the painted finish.
