Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A breakfront bookcase features a central section that projects forward beyond the flanking side sections. Popularised in the 18th and 19th centuries, this architectural design adds visual depth and structural distinction to large library storage units.

Victorian cabinetmakers frequently used solid woods and fine veneers such as walnut, mahogany, and oak. Construction typically featured dovetail joinery, hand-carved decorative motifs, and adjustable wooden shelving, often finished with decorative leather dust fringes.

Authentic 19th-century pieces display signs of hand-craftsmanship, including hand-sawn drawer linings, original brass ironmongery, and natural hand-carved ornamentation like shell or sunburst motifs. Examining the back panels for hand-planed timber and age-consistent oxidation also helps verify age.

Place this substantial furniture piece against a main focal wall in a living area, study, or hallway to anchor the space. Balance the traditional woodwork by styling the open shelves with a mixture of hardcover books, ceramic vessels, and minimalist art objects.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying or fading. Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, rubbing gently along the direction of the wood grain.
