Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Mid-Victorian breakfront bookcases feature a central section that projects forward from the flanking wing sections. Popularised in the nineteenth century, these large-scale storage pieces were designed for expansive private libraries and drawing rooms to display bound volumes.

Cabinetmakers during the Victorian era frequently utilised walnut, burr walnut veneers, and mahogany over solid pine or oak carcases. Construction typically incorporated hand-dovetailed joints, adjustable wooden shelf support tracks, and moulded cornices.

Authentic pieces exhibit natural timber shrinkage, age-related patination on unexposed reverse surfaces, and hand-sawn secondary timber on the back panels. The presence of figure-matched burr walnut veneers alongside traditional saw-tooth or peg shelf adjustment mechanisms indicates period construction.

Balance heavy timber frames by pairing the bookcase with light-coloured walls and modern architectural lighting. Organise shelves with a mixture of uniform volumes, ceramic vessels, and open space to maintain balance within the room.

Keep walnut furniture away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent veneer lifting and timber bleaching. Apply a high-grade beeswax polish annually with a soft cloth, working along the direction of the grain to maintain the natural finish.
