Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Regency cheval mirror, developed in the early 19th century, is a dual-post freestanding full-length mirror mounted on a swivel mechanism that allows the glass plate to tilt. Named after cheval (the French word for horse) due to its four-legged support structure, it was a hallmark of grand dressing rooms during the Georgian and Regency eras.

19th-century cheval mirrors were predominantly crafted from solid mahogany or rosewood veneers over pine or oak carcases. Key construction details include hand-turned side uprights, reeded downswept legs, brass toe caps or castors, and heavy brass side thumbscrews to secure the tilting frame.

Authentic Regency cheval mirrors display period construction signs such as hand-sawn timber backing panels, original mercury-gilded or silvered mirror glass with light foxing, period brass castors, and hand-cut joinery along the frame timber.

A mahogany cheval mirror functions as a focal accent piece in a contemporary bedroom, dressing space, or hallway. Positioning the mirror adjacent to natural light sources reflects light into the room while adding timber warmth and classical proportions.

Maintain timber surfaces by regularly dusting with a dry cotton cloth and applying high-grade beeswax polish along the grain. Clean the glass plate using a lightly dampened cloth rather than spraying liquid directly onto the glass to prevent moisture from damaging the frame rebate.
