Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A French ormolu mantel clock is a decorative clock made from fire-gilded bronze (ormolu), popularised during the 18th and 19th centuries in France. These timepieces typically feature detailed neoclassical or rococo figural sculptures alongside porcelain or enamelled dials.

These clocks were crafted using cast bronze treated with a mercury-gilding process to produce a gold finish. Dials and accent panels were frequently created using hand-painted porcelain or enamel, while internal clockworks were built with precision mechanical brass movements.

Authentic pieces often feature foundry stamps or maker signatures on the rear movement plate, heavy hand-chased bronze castings, and fine hand-painted details on porcelain inserts. The undersides generally display untouched casting evidence, natural age-related tarnish, or mild oxidisation.

Position the clock centrally on a marble fireplace mantelpiece or a minimalist console table to create a focal point. Juxtaposing gilded metalwork against contemporary neutral backgrounds or modern abstract artwork highlights the structural detail of the piece.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a fine feather duster. Liquid chemical brass polishes should never be applied, as they can strip the original gilding; mechanical movements should be serviced by a professional horologist every five to seven years.
