Description

Number 199, a two day marine chronometer by James McCabe , London, beautifully signed and numbered on the dial and movement, and the number on the bottom of the bowl. In a three part mahogany case now with an enamel plaque.

Unusually this fine chronometer has no up and down dial making the 3.25 dial look very elegant with gold hands. the movement has an Earnshaw type escapement and maintaining power.

The number would suggest a date of around 1825

Our stock includes early oak and walnut furniture from the 18th century, as well as more formal pieces from the Georgian period. Their scientific instruments, which include early microscopes, telescopes and equipment such as sextants, provide a fascinating insight into the evolution of technology, whilst demonstrating fine artistry and craftsmanship. One of Hansord’s many exhibitions was entitled ‘From simplicity to complexity with a little eccentricity’ and this continues to be the guiding mantra behind their collection today.
