A fine and exceptional Victorian silver christening mug tankard with clear hallmarks for London 1871 and makers mark for WH, most likely for the prolific William Hutton. The upright tankard shape is set on three ball feet, with a plain handle. The body is engraved with gothic themes popular in Victorian times such as inverted fleur de lys, entwined scrolling, and simple inverted garlands. The design reflects Scandinavian design themes popular at the time with an Arts & Crafts feel - a unique mix of influences. A good gauge of silver, and a substantial and very stylish piece of silver work. Weight 5oz/160gr.
