Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the late nineteenth century, bonbon baskets were designed for formal dining tables to serve sweets, candied fruits, and nuts. These vessels reflected the eras focus on specialized tableware and decorative dining accessories.

These items were constructed from sterling silver, comprising 92.5 percent pure silver mixed with copper for structural durability. silversmiths utilized fretwork, mechanical piercing, and solder assembly to form openwork latticework and fitted swing handles.

Authentic British sterling silver displays a set of stamped hallmarks: the lion passant indicating silver purity, a town mark such as an anchor for Birmingham, a makers mark, and a specific date letter representing the year of manufacture.

A silver bonbon basket functions well on a sideboard top, coffee table, or vanity table. It can be displayed as a standalone decorative object or used as a functional dish for small items like jewellery.

Maintain silver by cleaning gently with a soft cloth and non-abrasive silver polish to clear oxidisation. Avoid harsh chemical dips and store the piece in a dry, low-humidity environment to retard tarnishing.
