In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Italian Baroque mirror design is defined by dramatic, ornate carving featuring organic motifs such as acanthus leaves, scrollwork, and exaggerated curves. Originating in seventeenth-century Italy, these frames were crafted to reflect light and display opulent craftsmanship through deep relief carving and gilded finishes.

Traditional Baroque mirrors were constructed from carved softwoods, such as pine or lime, coated with gesso, and finished using water gilding with gold leaf. The reflective surface comprised glass plate, which was hand-blown and silvered using tin and mercury amalgams.

Authentic period giltwood mirrors typically display hand-carving marks on the reverse, natural age shrinkage in the timber joints, and a reddish bole layer showing through worn areas of gold leaf. Modern reproductions frequently use molded resin or plaster instead of carved wood and exhibit modern, uniform backing boards.

An Italian Baroque style mirror serves as a focal point when positioned above a minimalist console table, a chimneypiece, or in an entryway. Combining ornate gilded frames with neutral walls and modern furniture creates a balanced, contemporary contrast.

Dust the carved gilding gently using a soft, dry feather duster or camel-hair brush, avoiding water or commercial polish which can dissolve gesso and gold leaf. Clean the mirror glass carefully with a dry microfibre cloth or a slightly dampened swab, ensuring moisture does not seep into the frame edges.
