Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French ormolu mantel clocks originated in the eighteenth century and became prominent horological decorative items through the nineteenth century. These clocks combined precise movement engineering with sculpted gilt-bronze cases, often commissioned for grand salons and formal rooms across Europe.

These clocks are constructed primarily from cast bronze treated with mercury gilding (ormolu) to create a durable gold finish. Additional decorative elements frequently include hand-painted porcelain panels, enamel dial cartouches, and steel mechanical movement components.

Authentic pieces feature heavy cast bronze construction with hand-chased details visible on the metalwork. Pendulum movements typically bear French maker marks or serial numbers stamped onto the rear brass plates, alongside hand-painted enamel digits or porcelain inserts.

Position the clock centrally on a marble fireplace mantelpiece, sideboard, or console table to establish a focal point. Complement the gilded tones by placing it against neutral walls, dark panelling, or alongside tailored contemporary ceramics.

Dust metal surfaces using a soft brush or dry microfibre cloth, avoiding chemical polishes or water which damage the original gilt surface. Porcelain panels should be wiped gently with a dry cloth, and mechanical movements require periodic servicing by a specialist clockmaker.
