Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Regency cellarette is a nineteenth-century wooden chest or cabinet constructed to hold wine or liquor bottles. Often designed in classical sarcophagus forms, these pieces were positioned in dining rooms to keep beverages accessible during meals.

Regency wine coolers were predominantly constructed from dense timbers such as mahogany or rosewood, often featuring flame veneers. The interior usually contained a zinc or lead lining for insulation, complemented by brass fittings and hand-carved feet.

Authentic Regency pieces display hand-cut dovetail joints, original zinc or lead interior linings, and classical motifs such as gadrooning, lion paw feet, or rope-twist mouldings. Natural age-related wear to the finish and oxidisation on internal fittings also indicate period age.

An antique cellarette functions well as a standalone decorative chest in a dining room, hallway, or study. The flat or stepped lid provides a surface for displaying smaller decorative items, while the interior offers discreet storage.

Maintain mahogany cellarettes by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and applying beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the wood finish. Keep the object away from direct sunlight, central heating radiators, and excessive moisture to prevent warping or veneer lifting.
