Aaron Nejad Carpets and Rugs has dated this Persian Village Wool Rug to the 1920s.
The design is bold and quite archaic, as one would expect from a weaver with such a long tradition to draw one, but has been expertly executed. combinations of diamonds and other geometric ornaments have been arranged on a grey field in bright colours which gives a three dimensional feel to the design. Note also the butterfly type ornaments in the sapphire blue spandrels. This is also framed by a generously wide ivory border with a pretty floral pattern. All very charming. The rug has survived in very good condition and has recently been professionally cleaned.
