Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian Chippendale style furniture originates from 18th-century Britain, combining mid-Georgian proportions with ornate rococo, Gothic, and Chinese influences. Key hallmarks include carved cabriole legs ending in ball and claw or pad feet, dark timber construction, and balanced symmetry.

Lowboys from this period were predominantly constructed from solid walnut, mahogany, or oak, often finished with figure-rich veneers such as burr walnut. Hardware typically comprised cast brass backplates with drop handles, and drawers were fitted with secondary softwoods or oak linings.

Authentic period lowboys feature hand-carved leg detailing, hand-cut asymmetric dovetail drawer joints, and uneven timber shrinkage on back panels or drawer bottoms. Original brass hardware will exhibit natural oxidisation and hand-chased surface details.

A lowboy functions effectively as a hall console table, a bedroom vanity unit, or an occasional side table in a drawing room. Placing modern ceramics or tailored table lamps on its surface provides a balanced aesthetic contrast against the rich timber.

Dust the timber regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth along the grain line. Apply a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the wood finish, avoiding synthetic spray polishes and keeping the table away from direct sunlight or central heating sources.
