We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in early nineteenth-century France, Empire and Restoration style console tables are characterized by classical symmetry, heavy architectural forms, flame mahogany veneers, carved scroll or caryatid legs, and polished marble tops.

These tables were typically crafted from solid oak or pine frameworks veneered in rich flame mahogany, topped with native French marbles such as Gris Sainte-Anne or Belgian Black, and sometimes trimmed with gilt-bronze mounts.

Authentic pieces feature thick cut wood veneers, hand-carved decorative motifs, hand-sawn backboards, and mortise-and-tenon joinery. The underside of the marble top often displays hand-chiseled tool marks rather than modern machine cuts.

Place the console in an entryway or hallway with a large contemporary artwork or framed mirror mounted above it. Balance the visual weight of the mahogany by styling the top with modern ceramics, glass vessels, or minimal lighting.

Dust the wood regularly with a soft cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish along the grain annually. Clean the marble top using a pH-neutral cleaner designed for natural stone, ensuring spills are wiped immediately to prevent staining.
