Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian rosewood work table is a specialised piece of small 19th-century occasional furniture designed primarily to store needlework, embroidery supplies, and craft tools. Featuring a pedestal stem and a hinged top enclosure, these tables fulfilled both practical storage and decorative functions in Victorian drawing rooms.

Victorian work tables were commonly crafted from dense hardwoods such as rosewood, mahogany, or walnut, utilising rich veneers over solid wood frames. Construction features often included dovetail-jointed interior compartments, turned pedestal columns, and hand-carved quadruped platform bases fitted with brass castors.

Authentic Victorian examples display hand-cut joinery inside the upper chest, original brass keyhole escutcheons, and genuine wear on original brass castors. The timber typically exhibits a deep grain pattern and natural patina developed over decades of age.

A Victorian work table functions well as an occasional side table beside an armchair or positioned within a quiet alcove or hallway. Its compact footprint and dark timber tones provide historical contrast in contemporary settings, while the upper compartment offers hidden storage.

Maintain an antique rosewood piece by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage or fading. Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly to preserve the natural lustre.
