In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The bee was adopted by Napoleon I as a sovereign emblem to connect the new French Empire with the ancient Merovingian dynasty. Symbolising immortality, resurrection, and diligence, the motif appeared frequently on textiles, metalwork, and gilded furnishings throughout the nineteenth century.

High-end French frames from the nineteenth century were typically constructed from cast bronze or brass, which was then gilded using the mercury gilding (ormolu) process. Interiors often featured silk moire, velvet, or embroidered fabric backings behind glass.

Authentic pieces demonstrate significant weight due to solid cast bronze construction, along with fine chasing details to the metalwork. Older gilding exhibits natural wear and subtle tarnish in recessed areas, rather than a uniform modern electroplated finish.

Gilt metal frames are frequently used as accent pieces on contemporary mantelpieces, sideboards, or bookshelves to add visual texture. Pairing historical brass or bronze items with clean, minimalist backdrops creates a sophisticated layered aesthetic.

Gilded surfaces should be dusted gently with a soft dry brush or microfibre cloth. Chemical metal polishes and abrasive cleaners must be avoided, as they can permanently strip original gold leaf or mercury gilding.
