Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian classical urns drew heavy inspiration from ancient Greek and Roman forms, particularly the campana shape. Characterised by fluted bodies, acanthus leaf motifs, egg-and-dart borders, and twin handles, these pieces served as decorative accents both indoors and in formal garden schemes during the nineteenth century.

During the nineteenth century, ornamental urns were typically produced using cast iron, terracotta, lead, bronzed zinc, or composite stone. Indoor variants were frequently cast in metal or spelter, then silvered, gilded, or patinated to resemble precious metals or antique bronze.

Authentic Victorian examples often display seam lines from multi-part casting, substantial weight, and genuine surface patination or wear around high points and handles. Inspecting the base for threaded iron rods, square nuts, or maker marks can also help establish age.

These decorative accents function effectively when placed symmetrically on a mantelpiece, sideboard, or entrance console table. They can be left empty as architectural sculptures or dressed with dried botanical arrangements, greenery, or branches.

Dust the surfaces regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or soft bristle brush to clean recessed relief details. Avoid using harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive polishes, as these can strip away original patination, silvering, or protective lacquer finishes.
