Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Neoclassical and Empire style bronze urns are characterised by Greco-Roman symmetry, scroll handles, urn-shaped bodies, and bases crafted from variegated marble or granite. Popular in the early 19th century, these items were designed to display classical refined taste in prominent interior spaces.

Early 19th-century mantel garnitures typically combine patinated bronze, gilt bronze (ormolu), and natural stone bases such as green or black marble. The metal elements were cast using the lost-wax process, chased by hand, and secured to stone plinths using threaded central rods.

Authentic period urns feature hand-chased surface details, natural patination in recessed areas, hand-cut threads, and minor irregularities on the marble plinths. Modern reproductions frequently show uniform machine casting, contemporary screws, and synthetic weight materials inside hollow bases.

Place a symmetrical pair of bronze urns on a fireplace mantelpiece, console table, or sideboard to establish verticality and historical contrast. Pairing classical bronze forms with clean contemporary backdrops highlights their architectural silhouettes.

Dust regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth or dry soft-bristled brush to remove dust from chased details. Avoid liquid polishes and water on marble, as acids can etch natural stone; apply microcrystalline wax sparingly to metal components to preserve existing patination.
