Camphor wood chests have a long tradition in East Asia, historically crafted for storing garments and valuable documents due to the woods natural insect-repellent properties.

These chests are typically constructed from dense hardwoods like camphor or maple, featuring intricate hand-carved relief panels and traditional joinery designed to withstand humidity.

Authentic pieces generally feature distinct aromatic wood qualities, traditional brass hardware, hand-chiselled relief carvings, and construction characteristics consistent with mid-20th-century production.

A carved chest functions effectively as a coffee table substitute, an end-of-bed storage solution, or an accent piece in a hallway, adding texture and warmth to contemporary spaces.

Maintain the wood by avoiding direct sunlight and excessive heat sources; occasionally clean with a dry, soft cloth and avoid harsh chemical polishes to preserve the natural finish.
