Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian bureau typically features a sloping fall-front lid opening to a fitted writing interior with pigeonholes and small drawers, situated above several full-width drawers. These pieces were designed during the 18th century using native and imported hardwoods, characterised by balanced proportions and detailed decorative inlays.

Cabinetmakers during the Georgian era commonly utilised walnut, satin walnut, mahogany, and oak for primary surfaces, often employing secondary woods like pine or oak for drawer linings. Decorative elements frequently included stringing inlays, crossbanding, and cast brass handles with cast escutcheons.

Authentic 18th-century bureaux feature hand-cut dovetail joints on drawer constructions, uneven hand-sawn backboards, and natural patination on the timber surfaces. Original brass drop handles will show minor casting irregularities and historic wear around keyholes and contact points.

A Georgian bureau functions effectively in a dedicated home office, hallway, or living room space. Placing contemporary artwork above the slant front or pairing it with modern lighting creates a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern interior design.

Preserve the timber surface by applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year, buffing along the grain with a soft cloth. Keep the furniture away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage, veneer lifting, and colour fading.
