Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian snap top table, also known as a tilt-top or catch table, features a hinged tabletop mounted on a central pedestal with a tripod base, allowing the surface to tilt vertically when not in use. Popularised during the 18th century, these versatile pieces were primarily designed to save space in period drawing rooms and parlours.

Craftsmen of the Georgian era predominantly utilised solid mahogany, oak, or walnut for these pieces, securing the tilt mechanism with iron or brass snap latches. The central baluster stems were hand-turned, while the three cabriole legs were traditionally joined using hand-cut dovetail or mortise-and-tenon joints.

Authentic Georgian examples usually feature hand-carved details, asymmetrical underside wear, original brass or iron spring-catch latches, and three evenly spaced tripod legs often terminating in pad or claw-and-ball feet. Looking at the underside of the top often reveals hand-sawn timber marks and traditional wood block constructions.

Place the table beside an armchair or sofa to serve as an occasional drinks table or lamp stand. When positioned in an empty corner, tilting the top vertically displays the wood grain and transforms the piece into an architectural feature.

Dust the wood regularly with a dry, soft cloth, and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year following the direction of the grain. Keep the table away from direct heat sources and radiators to prevent the solid timber top from warping or splitting over time.
