Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A tilt-top tripod table is an occasional table constructed with a round or oval top hinged to a central column supported by three legs. Popularised during the eighteenth century, the tilting mechanism allows the table surface to store vertically along walls when not required.

These tables were customarily made from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or oak. Key structural details include hand-carved motifs, a wooden tilt-block or brass catch mechanism, and dovetailed joinery attaching the tripod legs to the central column.

Authentic period examples often feature hand-wrought iron or brass latch mechanisms, visible hand-plane marks under the tabletop, and natural timber shrinkage across the grain. The undersides generally exhibit dark oxidisation consistent with age.

A carved tripod table serves as a functional occasional side table beside an armchair or sofa. Alternatively, the top can be secured in its upright position and set against a wall to highlight the relief carving as a decorative feature.

Dust regularly using a dry microfibre cloth, and apply beeswax polish once or twice a year, wiping in the direction of the grain. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight and radiator heat sources to prevent timber movement and cracking.
