Originating in England during the early 18th century, these chairs became standard regional vernacular seating in both domestic and public interiors.

Traditional English Windsor chairs usually combine several native hardwoods. Elm was chosen for the solid saddle seat due to its interlocking grain which resists splitting, while steam-bent ash, beech, or yew were commonly used for the back hoops, spindles, and turned legs.

Authentic antique Windsor chairs feature hand-shaped saddle seats, wedged mortise-and-tenon construction, subtle variations in leg turnings, and hand-carved or steam-bent components rather than modern, perfectly uniform machine cuts.

A Windsor armchair functions effectively as an accent piece beside a hearth, as a head chair at a dining table, or alongside a contemporary wooden desk in a home workspace.

To preserve the timber patination, dust regularly with a soft cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the chair positioned away from direct heat sources to prevent wood shrinkage and loose socket joints.
