Antique Captain Smokers Bow Armchair

A neat antique stripped captain’s armchair in the traditional manner, likely beech with an elm seat. The chair has a shaped horseshoe back and arms raised on turned spindle supports. The solid shaped seat is raised on four turned legs with double stretcher supports beneath. The chair has been stripped, leaving traces of the original finish throughout which contrast well against the lighter timber and give the piece a good honest appearance. Attractive colour throughout.

CONDITION REPORT

In good antique condition throughout with some signs of age. There is surface wear in places including age-related marks, scratches and wear to the arms, seat and legs commensurate with age and use. There is minor evidence of historic woodworm to the legs which is long gone and has been treated as a precautionary measure. The antique captain’s chair remains structurally solid and sound with good tight joints. Overall, a rather pleasing example.
