Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the eighteenth century, leather trunks were constructed as practical luggage for road and sea travel. Crafted with a wooden shell covered in hide, these pieces featured metal studding to secure the leather and reinforce the seams against heavy handling.

These chests typically feature a solid pine or oak core wrapped in vegetable-tanned leather. Iron or brass studs were hammered along the edges for reinforcement, while hand-forged iron latches provided security and printed paper or newsprint lined the interior.

Authentic period trunks exhibit hand-forged iron hardware, irregular hand-cut studs, and evidence of original paper lining inside the lid. Natural age-related patination, uneven leather wear, and historic construction marks on the timber base also indicate authenticity.

A small leather trunk can be displayed on a sideboard, office desk, or deep window sill to introduce textural contrast. It serves effectively as a decorative accent piece while providing concealed storage for stationary or small items.

Keep the chest in a climate-controlled environment away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent the leather from drying out. Clean gently with a soft dry cloth and apply a specialist wax-based leather conditioner sparingly to preserve the hide.
