Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A toilet mirror, or dressing mirror, is a freestanding tabletop mirror introduced prominently in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries for use on dressing tables or chests of drawers. During the early Victorian period, these mirrors frequently featured tilting mechanism plates set on wooden uprights over a plinth base fitted with small drawers for personal items.

These mirrors were primarily constructed using solid mahogany or pine frames wrapped in cuts of flame mahogany veneer. The mirror plates were backed with mercury silvering or early silver process glass, held by hand-carved scroll or turned supports, and often rested on brass or wooden feet with hand-cut dovetail drawer joints.

Authentic pieces display distinct signs of nineteenth-century craftsmanship, including hand-sawn secondary timbers like pine or oak inside the drawers and rear backing. Look for natural age-related foxing on the glass plate, original threaded wooden knobs or brass fittings for the swivel frame, and smooth wear patterns along the bottom plinth.

A Victorian dressing mirror can be placed on a contemporary sideboard, console table, or vanity unit to serve as a functional and structural accent. The deep wood tones contrast effectively against muted neutral walls or bold modern backdrop colours.

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a clean, dry microcrystalline cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year in the direction of the grain. Clean the glass plate carefully with a dry cloth or specialized glass cleaner applied strictly to the cloth to prevent liquid from seeping into the wooden frame or corroding the mirror backing.
