Chalfont Clocks has dated this Gorge Case Carriage Clock to the 1870s.
The two train movement striking on a blued steel gong, is regulated by an English lever platform escapement, the crisp white roman dial is unblemished with Roman hours and arambic minutes, the case having thick bevelled glass throughout. The case is numbered 7396 throughout but is not signed.
The quality of the movement and the appearance of the engraving of the back plate lead us to believe that this clock was made either by one of these makers or by one of the highly skilled suppliers.
