This magnificent bronze was manufactured in France at the Barbedienne foundry betwen 1838-1875.
The foundry perfected a method invented by Achilles Collas in 1836, relating to mechanical reduction of sculptures.
Collas joined Ferdinand Barbedienne in 1838 at the foundry .
The society Collas et Barbedienne was formed and they began the production of reduced copies and sculptures.
This sculpture was one produced by Antoine Coysevox in 1709 and can be found I. The Louvres Tuileries Gardens
Sometimes referred to as the two faces of love , “Flore et in amour “ flora and a love”
Coysevox (1640-1720) was employed as sculpture to the French aristocracy and the king.
His work is exceptionally detailed and this scaled down detail can be fully appreciated in the bronze produced by the foundry thanks to the Collas invention.
This is a large and exceptionally detailed bronze , having changing details from 360 degrees.
Clearly stamped with the foundry details
Societe de collas stamp and the sculptors name and original sculpture date.
