18th Century English oak settle with a high back. Unusual format of five fielded panels at the back mirrored on the font panel, and having open arms.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An antique oak settle is a wooden bench featuring a high back and solid armrests, designed historically to block cold drafts in domestic interiors while providing sturdy seating.

18th-century settles were constructed predominantly from solid English oak using pegged mortise and tenon joinery, often incorporating raised fielded panels along the back and base.

Authentic period settles exhibit hand-hewn oak timber, hand-cut joinery, irregular peg placement, authentic wear around the footrests and armrests, and deep surface oxidisation inside unpolished crevices.

An antique settle functions well in entryways, hallways, or dining spaces, where it can be styled with neutral linen cushions or positioned alongside contemporary artwork to create visual contrast.

Preserve the wooden surface by dusting with a dry cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year, keeping the piece away from direct heat sources to prevent timber movement.
