Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A box settle is a wooden bench featuring a high back, armrests, and a hinged seat opening to a box chest below for storage, historically constructed in eighteenth-century homes across Wales and England.

These benches were primarily constructed from solid native hardwoods such as oak, featuring pegged mortise and tenon joinery, field-panelled backs, and solid timber board seating.

Authentic pieces display pegged hand-jointed construction, original iron hinges, uneven hand-planed surfaces, and natural wear patterns around the armrests and base consistent with centuries of use.

Position the settle in a hallway, entryway, or open-plan dining space to create architectural height, layer the seat with neutral linen cushions, and utilise the internal compartment for hidden storage.

Dust surfaces regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year in the direction of the grain, and maintain a stable indoor humidity to prevent timber movement.
