Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Chippendale style furniture originated in the mid-eighteenth century, named after English cabinetmaker Thomas Chippendale. It typically features intricate pierced back splats, elegant cabriole legs, and ball-and-claw feet influenced by Gothic, Rococo, and Chinese design elements.

Traditional Chippendale dining chairs are primarily constructed from solid mahogany, favoured for its rich grain, durability, and suitability for detailed hand carving. Framing techniques rely on mortise and tenon joinery to provide structural rigidity for everyday use.

Authentic period pieces or high-quality revivals display detailed hand-carved splats, well-proportioned cabriole legs terminating in crisp claw-and-ball feet, and dense mahogany timber. Stamped cabinetmaker marks or maker plates on the seat rails also establish provenance.

Pairing a large set of dark timber dining chairs with a minimalist oak or glass dining table creates a striking visual contrast. Re-upholstering the drop-in seat pads with contemporary neutral fabrics, such as linen or boucle, softens the formal aesthetic for modern living.

Maintain mahogany wood by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and applying a quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the patina. Avoid placing solid wood seating directly adjacent to radiators or in direct sunlight to prevent timber warping and finish degradation.
