Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Animalier movement emerged in 19th-century France, focusing on realistic, dynamic portrayals of animals often depicted in struggle or active movement. Artists captured anatomical precision and emotional intensity, departing from purely heroic classical human forms.

Sculptors utilised casting methods such as the lost-wax process or sand casting to translate detailed wax or clay models into bronze. The finished metal castings were then meticulously hand-chased and finished with chemical patination before mounting, often onto marble or granite bases.

Authentic pieces generally feature crisp details from quality hand-chasing, a genuine chemical patina developed over time, and appropriate foundry stamps or artist signatures cast into the metal. The visual weight, seamless casting lines, and age-appropriate wear on base mountings also indicate authenticity.

A bronze sculpture serves as a focal point on a fireplace mantel, executive desk, or console table. Placing the object against neutral backdrops or alongside structured woodwork highlights its dark silhouette and detailed patination without overwhelming contemporary decor.

Dust the sculpture regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a soft-bristled brush to clean intricate areas. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or water, and apply a light coat of clear microcrystalline wax annually to protect the original patina from oxidisation.
