Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An 18th-century Georgian chest of drawers is a timber cabinet featuring multiple horizontal drawers, traditionally configured in a two-short-over-three-long arrangement. Popularised throughout the 1700s, these pieces showcase balanced classical proportions, hand-cut joinery, and brass bail handles characteristic of Chippendale and Hepplewhite influences.

Primary exterior timbers were predominantly dense Cuban or West Indian mahogany, valued for durability and deep grain figure. Secondary timbers for drawer linings and backboards typically utilised native pine or oak, fitted with hand-cast brass handles and steel locks.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints with narrow pins, hand-planed secondary surfaces, and drawer bottoms with wood grain running horizontally. Naturally occurring shrinkage cracks, historic wear around drawer runners, and original brass hardware mounting marks also verify age.

Position the chest as a focal storage piece in a bedroom, hallway, or living space alongside neutral walls. Combine the warm mahogany tones with modern textured ceramics, framed abstract artwork, or structured contemporary lighting to create a balanced scheme.

Maintain timber surfaces by dusting regularly with a soft microfibre cloth and applying natural beeswax polish once or twice per year. Position the chest away from direct heat sources and radiators to prevent wood movement and finish drying.
