Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A pedestal desk features a flat top resting on two free-standing drawer pedestals separated by a central kneehole space. First emerging in England during the early 18th century, it became the standard design for executive offices and private libraries throughout the Georgian and Victorian eras.

Early 19th-century examples were typically constructed from solid mahogany or oak secondary woods, often featuring gilded leather writing surfaces. Hardware generally consisted of cast brass keyhole escutcheons and either turned wooden knobs or brass swan-neck handles.

Authentic pieces usually exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawers, original oak or pine drawer linings, and natural wear around the kneehole area. Genuine early 19th-century models typically separate into three distinct sectionsthe two pedestals and the topto facilitate transport.

Position the desk centrally in a dedicated home office or study to accentuate its architectural proportions. Pair it with modern task lighting and minimalist neutral backdrop walls to create a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and contemporary design.

Dust the timber surfaces with a soft microfiber cloth and apply a beeswax polish annually following the wood grain. Clean the leather insert with a specialized leather conditioner to prevent drying or cracking, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners that strip historical finishes.
