During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, young European aristocrats undertook the Grand Tour across mainland Europe to study classical art, history, and culture. Italian foundry workshops produced high-quality, reduced-scale bronze copies of famous Greco-Roman antiquities for these travellers to purchase as educational souvenirs and status symbols.
