Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A French four-glass clock set consists of a central clock enclosed in a rectangular case with four clear bevelled glass panels, typically flanked by a pair of matching decorative garnitures such as candlesticks or urns. Originated in 19th-century France, these designs allow complete visual access to the mechanical movement and pendulum.

These clocks are constructed using heavy gilt bronze (ormolu) or brass framing combined with thick bevelled glass panels and bases made from marble or black slate. The movement components feature brass plates, steel arbors, and decorative brass or mercury-compensated pendulums.

Authentic period pieces feature maker stamps on the back movement plate, such as Japy Freres or Vincenti, along with matching serial numbers stamped on the case and pendulum. They also feature heavy cast mounts, hand-ground bevelled glass, and countwheel striking mechanisms.

A French four-glass clock set functions as a focal point when placed atop a fireplace mantelpiece or a dark wood console table. Flanking the clock with its matching garnitures creates balanced symmetry within modern or traditional living spaces.

Dust the brass and glass surfaces gently with a soft dry microfiber cloth, avoiding liquid chemicals or abrasive brass polishes that degrade original gilding. Internal mechanical movements should be professionally cleaned and lubricated by a horologist every five to seven years.
