Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Vernis Martin vitrine is a glazed display cabinet decorated using a French lacquering technique developed in the 18th century by the Martin brothers, often featuring hand-painted romantic or pastoral scenes on the lower wood panels.

These pieces generally incorporate tropical hardwoods such as mahogany or kingwood veneers, cast gilt-bronze (ormolu) mounts, bevelled or flat glass panels, and an interior lining of velvet or silk fabric.

Authentic late 19th-century examples display hand-painted oil panels signed by or in the style of period artists, paired with cast ormolu mounts showing natural age-related oxidisation and traditional carcass construction.

Position the vitrine as a focal piece in a hallway or living area to contrast clean contemporary architectural lines with traditional gilt metal accents and dark timber tones.

Dust gently with a soft dry microfibre cloth, avoid placing the item in direct sunlight or near heat sources to prevent lacquer cracking, and refrain from using abrasive chemical polishes on the metalwork or painted surfaces.
