Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Tunbridge ware is a form of decoratively inlaid woodwork, primarily produced in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, during the 18th and 19th centuries. It features detailed mosaic patterns created from small tesserae of naturally coloured woods.

These boxes were typically constructed using native British timbers such as holly, yew, sycamore, and plum, frequently set into a casing of rosewood or walnut. The mosaic design relies entirely on natural wood tones without artificial dyes.

Authentic pieces feature minute geometric end-grain wood tesserae forming detailed patterns or landscapes rather than printed veneers. Looking closely at the border and central panel reveals individual end-grain strips fused into a solid block.

A decorative box can be styled on a hallway console, coffee table, or bookshelf to add texture and historical interest. It functions both as an eye-catching accent piece and as concealed storage for small personal items.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a light coat of beeswax polish occasionally to nourish the timber. Keep the box away from direct sunlight, damp conditions, and central heating radiators to prevent veneer lifting.
