Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the 19th century, particularly throughout the Grand Tour era, artisans in regions like Sorrento, Italy, crafted decorative wooden boxes disguised as stacked books or bound volumes as luxury souvenirs for wealthy travellers.

These boxes were predominantly crafted using native olive wood, prized for its distinctive grain, combined with various contrasting timbers, bone, or mother-of-pearl for intricate marquetry and hand-carved details.

Authentic period pieces feature natural age-related patina, slight irregularities in hand-cut joinery, micro-fine marquetry inlay work, and genuine historical surface wear rather than artificially applied distressing.

Position the box on a bookshelf nestled among genuine leather-bound volumes, place it on a study desk as functional storage, or display it as a focal conversation piece on a coffee table.

Keep the wood away from direct heat and damp environments to prevent warping or veneer lifting, dust regularly with a soft dry cloth, and apply a small amount of high-grade natural beeswax polish annually.
