Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Popularised during the George IV and Regency eras of the 1820s, foldover tea tables were designed for formal entertaining in drawing rooms. Their dual-purpose construction allowed them to function as slim wall console tables when closed and open into larger square tables for serving tea or social card games.

These tables were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany and flame mahogany veneers, prized for their rich colour and structural stability. Secondary timber such as pine or oak was used for interior framing, while brass castors and metal swivel hinges enabled smooth movement and conversion.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joinery, hand-planed timber undersides, and natural wood shrinkage along the grain over time. Key design features of the George IV period include heavy central columns, quadform bases, and carved acanthus leaf or scroll feet on brass castors.

Position the table folded closed against an entryway wall or behind a sofa as a compact console table. Decorate the surface with a pair of table lamps or a ceramic vase, or unfold the top when additional surface area is required for hosting.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry, lint-free microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish annually to nourish the timber. Keep the furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent wood warping, veneer lifting, and uneven fading.
