Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

First popularised in the mid-to-late 18th century, a Pembroke table is a compact rectangular occasional table featuring two drop-down flaps supported by hinged wooden brackets. Designed for light use such as writing, tea drinking, or bedside placement, these tables are characterized by a central drawer and slender, space-saving legs.

authentic Georgian Pembroke tables were predominantly crafted from solid Cuban or West Indian mahogany, valued for its dense grain and rich reddish-brown tone. Drawer linings were typically constructed using secondary timber such as oak or pine, fitted with hand-cast brass handles and steel hinges.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-sawn dovetail joints in the drawer construction, hand-cut rule joints connecting the table flaps, and original brass hardware. The legs on 1770s examples typically showcase simple square or tapered forms, consistent with classic Chippendale and early Neoclassical cabinetmaking techniques.

Due to its compact and adaptable form, a Pembroke table functions exceptionally well as a sofa end table, bedside nightstand, or hallway console. Extending the drop flaps allows it to instantly convert into a functional writing surface or display area for lamps and decorative ceramics.

Mahogany furniture requires regular dusting with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and an occasional light application of high-grade beeswax polish along the grain. Keep the table away from direct sunlight and artificial heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage, warping, or fading of the original finish.
