We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Dickens desk is a variation of the pedestal desk introduced in the 19th century, named after author Charles Dickens. It features a central sloped writing surface flanked by two raised banks of small drawers and a gallery shelf along the back.

Victorian cabinetmakers frequently utilised dense hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, and oak, paired with hand-tooled leather writing surfaces, brass lock mechanisms, and dovetailed solid wood drawer linings.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, original brass or turned timber handles, natural wear on the base plinths, and period-appropriate lock plates. The timber will show signs of natural aging and oxidation beneath polished surfaces.

A Victorian walnut desk serves as a focal point in a modern home office or library when paired with neutral wall tones, minimalist brass lighting, and contemporary artwork to balance the heavy wood grain.

Apply a high-grade beeswax polish along the timber grain twice yearly to maintain the finish and prevent drying. Leather writing tops should be dusted with a microfibre cloth and treated with a dedicated leather conditioner to prevent cracking.
