Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A refectory table is a long, narrow wooden table originally designed for communal dining in monasteries during the Middle Ages. The design gained widespread popularity in domestic settings during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries and remains a classic form of dining room furniture.

Traditional refectory tables are constructed from solid hardwoods such as oak, walnut, or pine. Common construction techniques include mortise and tenon joints, pegged joinery, and heavy trestle base supports connected by a low central stretcher.

Authentic pieces display hand-cut joinery, pegged tenons, structural wear on the footrests, and uneven surface patination consistent with age. Look for historical marks on the underside of the tabletop and signs of hand-planed timber.

Pair the table with contemporary upholstered chairs or mismatched vintage seating to create visual contrast. Position a large ceramic vase or linear pendant lighting above the surface to anchor the dining zone.

Clean the surface regularly using a soft cloth slightly dampened with water, following the grain of the wood. Apply a coat of beeswax paste every few months to protect the finish and prevent the timber from drying out.
