Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian daybed, often referred to as a chaise longue or fainting couch, is an elongated upholstered seat designed for reclining. Originating in 19th-century Britain, these pieces featured single raised ends or scroll backs, catering to modern leisure and drawing room etiquette.

Victorian daybeds typically feature hardwood internal frames, such as oak or mahogany, supported by turned wooden feet. Traditional construction utilised heavy-gauge coil springs, natural hair or fibre stuffing, and hand-tufted upholstery using fabrics like damask, tapestry, or velvet.

Authentic Victorian examples often display hand-tufted deep buttoning, brass castors or turned wooden feet, and solid timber frames beneath the upholstery. Inspecting the underside reveals hand-tied coil springs, burlap sacking, and traditional horsehair or coir padding rather than modern synthetic foam.

A Victorian daybed functions as an accent piece positioned along a bedroom wall, within a bay window, or alongside a living room seating area. Pairing the patterned tapestry fabric with neutral linen cushions and simple side tables balances the ornate historical silhouette.

Maintain original tapestry and upholstery by vacuuming regularly on a low-suction setting using a soft brush attachment. Keep the item out of direct sunlight to prevent fabric fading, and consult a specialist textile conservator for spot cleaning or structural frame repairs.
