Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian chaise longue is an upholstered reclining chair featuring an extended seat designed for supporting the legs, originating in 19th-century Britain as a comfortable seating option for drawing rooms and boudoirs.

These pieces were typically constructed with solid hardwood frames, such as rosewood, mahogany, or walnut, and were upholstered in luxury fabrics including velvet, damask, or horsehair, secured over coil springs and stuffed with natural fibres.

Authentic pieces feature period construction techniques, including hand-carved wood framing, deep button-tufting, hand-tied steel coil springs, original brass castors on carved legs, and evidence of hand-carving along the timber crest rail.

A chaise longue can be placed at the foot of a bed, alongside a large window, or within a living room seating arrangement to add historical texture, serving as a focal point when paired with understated contemporary decor.

Clean the velvet upholstery gently using a soft brush or vacuum with a low-suction brush attachment, keep the timber frame away from direct heat sources to prevent wood cracking, and treat the rosewood with clear beeswax polish periodically.
